Phuket Trip Report - Day 3
Day 3 (28th December 2006)
Day 3 and we're still in our very "holiday mood". This time, we'll be going on an ATV tour. Before we got onto our tour of the ATV, we browsed around another tour agent and we booked ourselves on another Afternoon tour for tomorrow called the SIM's Tour. After we had booked ourselves on that trip, we adjourned back to our hotel and awaited the transport towards the ATV site.
The ride towards the ATV site took about 1 hour and it was a really boring 1 hour. So, we slept throughout the way to the site. When we arrived at the site, we saw the ATVs waiting for us and the instructors were standing nearby welcoming us to the ATV camp. They asked us to sign some release forms (in case anything happens, touchwood). Then it was time to go on the ATVs. Simple reminder: "ALWAYS KEEP YOUR LEGS CLOSE BY AND DON'T LET THEM GO NEAR THE WHEEL. The ATV is already a 4WD, it does not need any extra help."
Being it my first time on an ATV, I was pretty nervous. So was Ashley and a few more who were in our group at the moment. So, they took us for a 2 rounds of practice, hoping that we'll get used to the vehicle. The first round for me was really embarassing. I nearly crashed into a tree. (Mind you, any accidents and damages towards the vehicle, will result in payment to fix the vehicle. The tail light itself will cost you 1,300 THB). After getting used to it, I finally got a hang of the manouvering and it was easy enough, however, the thumb kinda gets numbed up after a while (you have to keep pressing on the accelerator with your thumb to keep the vehicle moving).
We went through a lot of places and the best one that I love is the mud trails. It's really fun to know that the ATV can actually wade through the water even if the water's already covered the engine.
By the time the tour is over, we almost wanted to go on another round. But we would definitely wanna go on it again. We came back, rushed to the toilet (We forgot to visit the toilet before we left the place and it was a really long ride back to our hotel). After that small incident, we went out for dinner and came back to our hotel to rest after a very wonderful afternoon.
